Library Curriculum News 2016-2017:
Read Across America Week February 27- March 3
THIRD NINE WEEKS
We will be reading books and doing activities that go along with their curriculum and special days (Winter, Chinese New Year, Valentine’s Day, Grandparent’s Day, and St. Patrick’s Day). Students in 4K and 5K are learning the parts of a book. The week of February 27 - March 3 we will be celebrating Dr. Seuss’s birthday.
We will be researching our assigned country for International Week. We are reading books related to winter, Chinese New Year, Valentine’s Day, Grandparent’s Day, Dr. Seuss’s birthday and St. Patrick’s Day. Both first and second grades are learning the parts of a book and story elements.
We are doing our research unit based on our assigned country from International Week. We are learning about reliable resources, primary and secondary resources, and citations. We will be conducting research using dictionaries, thesauri, almanacs, atlases, encyclopedias, and online resources. Students will participate in Read Across America.
Students will participate in International Week and Read Across America. We will be finalizing our research from the first semester. Students will begin reviewing the parts of a book, call numbers, the Dewey Decimal System, and using the card catalogue.
